Young Hearts
The Fight EP

Pop punk is a pretty good blanket term these days…It seems as though anyone who tosses a little bit of melody (“pop”) into remotely aggressive music (“punk”), will almost without question fall under the “pop-punk” classification. For Brooklyn, NY’s Young Hearts, the term “pop-punk” is pretty much a perfect description of their new digital record. On this four song EP,Young Hearts find a way to masterfully blend gritty, gutted, and shouted vocals not unlike Minor Threat and Latterman with crisp and clear vocal melodies very reminiscent of Lifetime and Jawbreaker. The music is driving and forthright, linking simple three-chord pop punk structures with technical guitar riffs and mathematic drumming. Combine that with heart-felt lyrics sung with every bit of sincerity, and you have the making for a pretty great pop-punk record. While their will always be a multitude of pop-punk bands, a very selective few stand above the rest, and with The Fight, Young Hearts prove that they are certainly one of those bands.
