Murder By Death
Red of Tooth and Claw
Vagrant Records

This is soul-sellin' music—the kind of stuff they play in dusty crossroads saloons. There are distinct traces of Johnny Cash and Reverend Horton Heat on this disc. Much like the Rev., I wouldn’t call this rockabilly exactly as it has hints of rock, swing, jazz, polka, and goth. With an assortment of instruments beyond your standard guitar and drums, Murder By Death gets a little experimental with piano, organ, violin and tambourine. The combination is dark and interesting. If I had to call it something, I’d call it goth-a-billy.
